Immersive Metering

Meter Bridge Pro Meets Dolby Atmos Renderer

Many Dolby Atmos mixers are using the Meter Bridge Pro in combination with the Dolby Atmos Renderer to meter all of their channels in addition the renderer output channels to get their mixes just right.

The Massive Meter Pro is designed to work with all popular channel layouts for immersive formats including 5.1.2, 5.1.4, 7.1.2, 7.1.4, 9.1.4, and 9.1.4. It also meters up to 64 channels in a single plugin with Ambisonics 7. The Massive Meter Pro supports Pro Tools AAX native and DSP (HDX, Carbon) in addition to VST3.

The Meter Bridge Pro can display meters from any of the Pro Tools or other VST3 compatible DAWs running the Massive Meter Pro in your studio in a single place.

You can create meter configurations that display the meters from each of your source systems displaying music, dialog, and effects (DME) stems, meter the inputs going into your recorder, compare the inputs and outputs PEC/Direct style with Meter Linking, and the meter the final output coming from the Dolby Atmos Renderer.

Get Your Meters Organized

When working on immersive mixes, the number of tracks and objects grow quickly. There are several ways of organizing your meters to get the most out of the Meter Bridge Pro. Both Meter Linking and Meter Groups allow you to quickly organize your meters.

Meters can be linked together to view them interlaced together. Meter Linking works great for PEC/Direct style metering which allows you to quickly check that the linked meters match or operate as expected. This workflow is commonly used on a recorder system to check that the output of one system matches the input of the recorder. With your linked meters, you can quickly find out what might be wrong.

Meters can be grouped using the Meter Group feature. Once a meter is grouped, they appear together, can be moved or shown/hidden as a group. If meters are named with the same prefix such as DX, MX, or FX, you can automatically group meters by name.

If you are getting too many meters displayed on the Meter Bridge Pro, simply hide the meters that are cluttering your bridge. Either clicking on the name of the system (System View) or going to the View menu will allow you to quickly show/hide meters.

Got iPads? Get Metering!

There are two ways to get meters on your iPad. The first is to use screen mirroring to display the Meter Bridge Pro on your iPad. The second is to run the Meter Bridge Pro (formerly called the Massive Meter Bridge) on your iPad directly.

To maximize responsiveness using the Meter Bridge Pro on your iPad, it is recommended to use a hardwired ethernet connection to your iPad.

Combining Massive Meter Pro and Core Audio Inputs

The Meter Bridge Pro can display audio meters from both Massive Meter Pro plugins and audio inputs from a Core Audio device. Using both the Massive Meter Pro plugin along with CoreAudio allows you to compare and ensure what is going out of your DAW matches what is going to your speakers. You can also leverage the Dante Virtual Soundcard to meter the output of the Dolby Atmos Renderer.

Bringing Dante Into the Mix

If you are using Dante in your studio you can bring Dante into the Meter Bridge Pro using the Dante Virtual Soundcard, also known as DVS. The Meter Bridge Pro will see DVS as a Core Audio device and all of DVS’s audio channels will be available to create custom meters for.

You can create a 7.1.4, 9.1.4, 9.1.6, or any other meter format and assign the channels to the output of DVS to match the speakers in your room. This allows you to quickly meter the final rendered output going to your speakers. Having visibility into what audio is going to what speaker provides confidence that your mix is right and can help you troubleshoot audio routing issues.
